The Hands-On Social Studies series, Ontario edition, is an instructional program for teachers of grades 1 to 6 social studies. This program has been designed to focus on the goals of the Ontario Social Studies Curriculum (2004). These goals are:

1. To understand the basic concepts of social studies, history, and geography.
2. To develop the skills, strategies, and habits of mind required for effective inquiry and communication, and for the application of the basic concepts of social studies, history, and geography to a variety of tasks.
3. To relate the knowledge acquired through social studies and the study of history and geography to the world outside the classroom.
